Originally finding my voice through comedy, I have expanded my writing. . .
And am currently in the final stages of the writing process for an original play titled Good Grievers.
Previously, I have written two short films. Self Care was my debut short, which was loosely based on Marsha in The Seagull and explored themes of settling, mundanity and toxic relationships. Big Speech was created during the zoom era of COVID and was a very run and gun attempt to keep my sanity during an insane time— exploring a well-meaning character, who unfortunately, is more confident than smart.
I co-wrote an award-winning web series Centered alongside writer/actor Gobbie Dixon, which follows the participants at the under-funded, dilapidated Brighter Horizons— for group therapy and arts enrichment. Shot in a fly-on-the-wall style, the series allowed space for some of Chicago’s best comedians to flex their talent with a set script and lots of improvisation surrounding it.
I was a writer and performer on a satirical weekly news comedy show in Chicago titled Real Life Tonight, drawing inspiration from Weekend Update and political cold open sketch. Beyond writing sketch for the Chicago stage, I was submitted to comedy writing departments at The Onion, Reductress, and Samantha Bee.
As a writer, I’m drawn to themes of loneliness/connection, fish out of water, small town quirk and characters who are unapologetically flawed— specifically, the juxtaposition of a clown who is incredibly earnest and not so wise.
I write humorous works with a lot of sensitivity and heart.
